Jean-Christophe
is a researcher at ORSTOM (Office Français
de Recherche pour le Développement en Coopération).
He has been working in the Pacific for the last 15 years, mainly
in New Caledonia and Vanuatu. His main interest is on pottery
production and how they can be archaeologically related to
specific cultures. He has carried out excavations in French
Polynesia (Tahiti and Huahine), New Caledonia (many sites), Fais
(Caroline Islands), and in Germany (palaeolithic and neolithic
sites). His publications are mainly focussed on pottery
technology, and also survey research. Galipaud spent a sabbatical
leave during 1995 at the Archaeozoology Laboratory writing up
various research projects, including Tiwi (New Caledonia)
faunal research. He is now involved in a three year programme
of research on Vanuatu, in Santo and the Torres Islands. This
coordinates research activities in biological anthropology,
ethnography, archaeology, and ethno-archaeology.
