Michelle did her Masters thesis on trace element analysis of human tissues and its use in reconstruction of ancient diet. She was Senior Research Assistant during 1995 in a programme of research on prehistoric fishing in New Zealand and the Chatham Islands. She is Curator at the Whanganui Museum.
