Climate in the Bay of Islands

The conference is being held in early October, which is the Spring season in New Zealand. Tourist advertising material on the climate of the Bay of Islands invariably paints a rosy picture, with frequent mention of the terms "sub-tropical", and the "winterless north". That sounds rather nice, and indeed it is. However, October is not the summer season, so don't expect high temperatures. If there is rain, it will be warm.

If you intend to go diving on the day off (Wednesday), it would be useful to bring a wet suit. At this time of year, 3mm is fine in this area. In Cook Strait and further south, 9mm is required.

For the month of October in the Bay of Islands, the mean temperature is 14.5 degrees C, there is an average of 96 mm of rain, and 180 hours of sunshine.
