Circa 1946, shortly after the refit for registration for paying passengers on fishing trips. At this time good fishing could be had close in the sounds at Mabel Island and Allports Island. Good sized cod, gurnard, tarakihi were easily taken. On one trip Reg Dawkins and his party caught 45 small groper at Stella Rock. This phone was taken off Deiffenback Point. at this time, Sir Francis Chichester owned a property opposite a bit further down Queen Charlotte sound on western side where he planted pine trees.
